Before you board the plane to your destination, here is a step-by-step explanation on how to install an eSIM.
Important to know:
- To install an eSIM, make sure you have an eSIM compatible and network unlocked device.
- For a successful installation, you MUST have a stable Wi-Fi connection when installing an eSIM.
- Installing your eSIM before you travel will not affect data usage or validity; with exceptions (see list at the end). Your eSIM will only be activated upon arrival at your destination and validity begins once you are connected to the local provider. If the eSIM covers more than one country, it will be activated in each of the covered countries (eSIMs activated at the time of installation: Ubigi and Dtac).
There are 2 ways to add an eSIM to your device (note that these steps may differ depending on your device):
Option 1: By scanning the eSIM QR code
Follow these steps to scan the QR code and set up your eSIM:
- Go to your email to find your QR code.
- Go to your camera on your phone to scan the QR code.
- Or go to Settings on your device.
- Tap "Connections".
- Tap "SIM Management".
- Tap "Add eSIM".
- You can now scan the QR code.
- If necessary, go to Connections and tap SIM Management to set the appropriate network preferences listed in the additional information located at the bottom right of the selected data package page.
- Enable eSIM under Mobile data.
- Turn on mobile data.
- Enable data roaming (disable the primary line to avoid roaming charges from your provider abroad).
- If necessary, set up an APN (access point name) on your device. If APN settings are required for your eSIM, you can find the APN details in the eSIM setup details.
Option 2: By adding the eSIM manually
If you have trouble scanning the QR code or are unable to scan the QR code, you can enter the eSIM information manually. Follow these steps:
- Go to "My eSIMs" to find your manual installation details via email or website.
- Go to "Settings" on your device.
- Tap "Network & Internet".
- Tap the add icon next to mobile network.
- Tap next when asked "Don't have a SIM card?".
- Enter code manually tab. You will be asked to enter the following:
- SM-DP+ address
- Activation code
- Confirmation code (if available)
- Enable your eSIM under mobile network
- Turn on mobile data
- Enable data roaming (disable the primary line to avoid roaming charges from your provider abroad)
- If necessary, set up an APN (access point name) on your device. If APN settings are required for your eSIM, you can find the APN details in the eSIM setup details
